PSIER News 006/2009
The article details the interim swine flu arrangements effective immediately and to be in operation until 1 November 2009. These arrangements have been developed in response to the increased presentation of public service employees at hospital emergency departments for the sole purpose of obtaining either a medical certificate or a medical clearance to return to work.
Specifically the interim arrangements apply:
- when employees believe they have influenza (seasonal or H1N1) or influenza-like symptoms;
- when employees have been absent from the workplace due to this illness for a period up to seven calendar days; and
- when the employee would otherwise have obtained a medical certificate for the period of absence greater than three days (but less than eight days).
Eligible employees will be required to complete a statutory declaration to declare their absence for the above purpose. See the factsheet for more information on how to make a statutory declaration.
