PSIER News 003/2009
Directive 6/09 – “Senior Officers – Employment Conditions” .
The Directive was published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 12 June 2009 and operates from 12 June 2009.
Directive 6/09 – “Senior Officers – Employment Conditions” replaces any provision of Directive 7/06 – “Senior Executives and Senior Officers - Employment Conditions” applying to senior officers.
Prior to the operation of the new Public Service Act 2008 (the Act) , the employment of Senior Officers was regulated by the former Office of the Public Service Commissioner. As part of the reforms, the Act has transferred the responsibility to make rulings about the employment of Senior Officers to the Minister responsible for Industrial Relations. As a result, the Senior Executives and Senior Officers – Employment Conditions Directive (no.7/06) has been replaced by two directives: one issued by the new Public Service Commission Chief Executive covering Senior Executives and the other issued by the Minister responsible for Industrial Relations covering Senior Officers.
Changes to the Directive are outlined as follows:
The directive now includes entitlements for Senior Officers that were not specified in the previous directive such as:
- fixed term contracts of employment;
- rewards for creating intellectual property; and
- voluntary early retirement and retrenchment.
For employment conditions of Senior Executives please see the Public Service Commission Directive 05/09 “Senior Executives – Employment Conditions”.
This PSIER News merely summarises the entitlements under the directive. It is recommended that you read the directive which can be accessed on the PSIER website at: http://www.psier.qld.gov.au/direct/index.html
